Price change for Czech vignettes from March 2024

The Czech motorway toll will be adjusted from March 2024, with the annual vignette becoming more expensive and specific short-term vignettes becoming cheaper. The website www.edalnice.cz, available in several languages, including German and English, allows users to view up-to-date information on the toll system and purchase vignettes. The changes include the introduction of a new daily vignette and price reductions for 10- and 30-day vignettes, while the annual vignette will see its first price increase in twelve years. These changes are part of the implementation of the EU Eurovignette Directive and reflect the expansion of the Czech motorway network.

From March 2024, the use of Czech motorways will become more expensive, especially for annual vignettes, while there will be some price reductions for short-term vignettes. The official website, www.edalnice.cz, available in Czech, German and English, allows interested parties to purchase vignettes and find out about the latest changes to the toll system. Lucie Bartáková, the financial director of the State Fund for Transport Infrastructure (SFDI), emphasised the importance of the website as a source of information on relevant innovations for 2024 concerning the electronic motorway vignette.

Since 1 January, the purchase of vignettes has been limited to a maximum of 30 days in advance, a change from the previous 90-day rule. Further adjustments will come into force on 1 March: a new one-day vignette will be introduced for 200 crowns (approx. 8.10 euros). At the same time, the prices for 10-day and 30-day vignettes will be reduced to 270 crowns (approx. 11 euros) and 430 crowns (approx. 17.40 euros), respectively. Significant is the price increase of the annual vignette to 2300 crowns (approx. 93 euros), the first price adjustment of this kind in twelve years, due to the expansion of the motorway network, which currently covers 1365 kilometres. The Ministry of Transport plans to extend the network by 118 kilometres by 2024.

These price changes are part of implementing the revised EU Eurovignette Directive, which stipulates maximum prices for short-term vignettes for cars and requires the availability of daily vignettes for transit travellers. The vignette requirement applies to more than 1000 road kilometres in the Czech Republic.
