Planning a trip through the Czech Republic by car, motorhome, or motorcycle?

For Czechia, you will need a valid digital motorway vignette (e-vignette) to use Czech highways and expressways. The vignette is available online and linked directly to your vehicle’s license plate – no stickers, no waiting times.

Benefits of the Czech e-vignette:
Easy online purchase: Buy from home or on the go.

Which e-vignette types are available?
Choose the needed option based on your trip duration:

  • 10-day vignette: Perfect for short trips or weekends.
  • 30-day vignette: Great for holidays or extended stays.
  • Annual vignette: Valid for 365 days from purchase – ideal for commuters and frequent travellers.

Where is the vignette required?
The e-vignette is required on most highways and expressways in the Czech Republic. Some sections near Prague and Brno are toll-free to ease urban traffic. A comprehensive overview is available at edalnice.cz.

Are there exemptions or discounts?
Yes – certain vehicle types are exempt from tolls:

Important: Exemption must be applied for – online or at official sales points. Once registered, your plate is stored in the control system.

How is the e-vignette checked?
Control is automatic using camera systems that scan your license plate. Be sure to enter the correct plate during purchase. Mistakes (e.g. typos) can be corrected shortly after booking.

What about vehicles over 3.5 tons?
The e-vignette does not apply to trucks, larger motorhomes, or buses weighing more than 3.5 tons. These must use the separate MYTO CZ toll system with a satellite-based onboard unit.
Do motorcycles need a vignette?
No. Motorcycles are entirely exempt from the vignette requirement in the Czech Republic.

Your digital vignette is valid immediately after purchase unless you choose a future date.
Cars, vans and motorhomes up to 3.5 t (with at least four wheels) must have a valid e vignette on most motorways/expressways. Motorcycles don’t need one. Heavier vehicles (>3.5 t) don’t use vignettes—they pay a distance based toll (MYTO CZ) instead.
Czechia offers exemptions/discounts by powertrain: Battery‑electric & hydrogen: Motorways are free. If the car is Czech‑registered, the exemption is automatic; if foreign‑registered, submit a short Exemption Notice before using toll roads. Plug‑in hybrids ≤ 50 g CO₂/km: pay 25% of the base price. Natural gas (CNG) / biomethane: pay 50% of the base price (LPG is not included).
No. Trailers/caravans don’t have their own vignette; you only need one for the towing vehicle (as long as it’s ≤ 3.5 t). Motorhomes over 3.5 t must use the MYTO CZ system (on‑board unit) instead of vignettes.
Motorways (outside towns): 130 km/h, unless signs say otherwise. Outside built‑up areas: 90 km/h; inside built‑up areas: 50 km/h. Some express roads (silnice pro motorová vozidla) are 110 km/h where posted. New in 2025: a pilot section on the D3 uses dynamic signs allowing up to 150 km/h in good conditions—follow the posted limit.
Police and customs scan plates on the motorway and at control gates/rest areas. If you’re on a tolled road without a valid vignette, fines are up to CZK 20,000. Abusing exemptions can be fined up to CZK 100,000; failing to submit a required exemption notice can cost up to CZK 5,000.
Lights on—always. Daytime running lights (or low beam) are required year‑round. Zero alcohol tolerance also applies. Winter tyres: From Nov 1–Mar 31, you must use winter tyres whenever snow/ice is present or expected; some signed sections require them for the whole period. Check & correct your data: Use the Validity Check tool; if you made a small plate typo, you can correct up to two characters once during validity in Vignette Administration. Changing plates? For Czech‑registered cars, many plate changes update automatically via the vehicle register; otherwise file a Change of Licence Plate Number notice
