Austria vignette 2026: Now available – last adhesive vignette before the switch to digital

The 2026 Austrian vignette is now available: the last adhesive vignette before the complete switch to digital, valid until 31 January 2027, new prices and important information on daily, short-term and annual vignettes for holidaymakers and commuters.

Vignette 2026: Now available – last adhesive vignette before the switch to digital

Since the beginning of November 2025, the digital vignette for Austria's motorways and expressways has been available for the 2026 toll year, followed shortly afterwards by the classic adhesive vignette in the new colour ‘fire red’. What is changing, how long is the annual vignette valid for – and what should holidaymakers and commuters bear in mind now? An overview.

When will the 2026 vignette be available?

As usual, the 2026 vignette will be sold in the previous year:

  • Digital vignette 2026: available online in the ASFINAG toll shop and in the app since 4 November 2025, as well as from automobile clubs and many petrol stations.
  • Adhesive vignette 2026 (fire red): available from the end of November 2025 at the usual sales outlets such as petrol stations, tobacconists, automobile clubs and border stations.

The vignette will continue to be valid for all cars, motorcycles and light motorhomes up to 3.5 tonnes using the Austrian motorway and expressway network.

Validity: How long is the 2026 annual vignette valid from the date of purchase in November?

The annual vignette has a fixed period of validity, regardless of the date of purchase. The following applies to the 2026 annual vignette:

  • Valid from: 1 December 2025
  • Until: 31 January 2027

As usual, the annual vignette is therefore valid for up to 14 months.

Important for anyone purchasing in November 2025:

  • Even if the vignette is purchased in November, it will not be valid until 1 December 2025.
  • For journeys on Austrian motorways in November 2025, a 2025 vignette or a short-term vignette (1-day, 10-day or 2-month vignette) will therefore still be required.
  • If you purchase the digital annual vignette online, please note the 18-day period: for consumer protection reasons, it is valid in the ASFINAG toll shop at the earliest on the 18th day after purchase – unless you purchase it from a physical distribution partner or at the toll booth, where it is valid immediately.

What will change in 2026 with regard to vignettes in Austria?

2026 is a transition year – much will remain as usual, but the end of the adhesive vignette is approaching:

  1. Last adhesive vignette ever The bright red 2026 vignette is the last adhesive vignette that will still be sold. From the 2027 vignette year onwards, only the digital vignette will be available, with toll evidence then linked exclusively to the vehicle registration number.

  2. Price increase of 2.9 per cent

The tariffs have been adjusted to the harmonised consumer price index, as required by law. For 2026, this means an average increase of 2.9 per cent. The annual vignette for passenger cars will thus clearly exceed the £100 mark.

  1. Daily vignette only available digitally

The 1-day vignette that has already been introduced will remain a purely digital product. It is particularly suitable for short journeys, such as day trips or simple transit.

  1. Focus on digital sales channels Around three quarters of users already opt for the digital version. In 2026, the infrastructure – online toll shop, app and partner portals – will be further expanded to ensure a smooth transition in 2027.

Overview of prices for the 2026 Austrian vignette

For cars up to 3.5 t:

  • Annual vignette: €95.80
  • 2-month vignette: €27.00
  • 10-day vignette: €12.80
  • 1-day vignette (digital only): €9.60

For motorcycles:

  • Annual vignette: €42.70
  • 2-month vignette: €12.80
  • 10-day vignette: €5.10
  • 1-day vignette (digital only): €3.80

Please note: Some sections of motorway are still subject to a special toll that is not covered by the vignette (e.g. individual Alpine passes and tunnels). These routes must be paid for separately.

Digital vignette: How the licence plate sticker works

With the complete switch to the digital vignette in sight, it will be worth making the change as early as 2026:

  • The digital vignette is linked to the licence plate – not to the windscreen.
  • No sticking, no scratching, no need to buy a new one when changing the windscreen or vehicle.
  • Ideal for interchangeable number plates: one vignette is sufficient for all vehicles with the same number plate.
  • There are no additional fees when purchasing from the official ASFINAG toll shop or authorised partners. Third-party providers on the internet often add significant surcharges to the official price.

Checks are carried out automatically via camera systems and number plate comparison with the toll database. It is not usually necessary to carry additional confirmation in the vehicle, but the purchase confirmation should be kept electronically or printed out.

Penalties: Why a valid vignette is so important

Anyone caught in Austria without a valid vignette will have to pay a replacement toll of currently around 120 euros. If this is not paid, significantly higher administrative penalties may be imposed. The following therefore applies to holidaymakers and travellers passing through:

  • Check in good time before departure whether a valid vignette (matching the registration number and period) has been registered.
  • When changing vehicles, remember to transfer the digital vignette to the new registration number or purchase a new one.

Outlook: Only digital from 2027

The launch of the 2026 vignette also marks the beginning of the end for the classic adhesive sticker. From 1 February 2027, only digital vignettes will be valid on Austria's motorways and expressways – regardless of whether they are for one day, ten days, two months or a year.

Those who already consistently use the digital version in 2026 will be well prepared for this change – and will already benefit from greater convenience and less paperwork when it comes to tolls.
